I went to see Contagion with one of my friends recently. I realize it played nicely into some of my anxieties, but I bet I'm not the only mom who had the following reaction.
My Contagion Freak-Out Timeline
What's the last movie you saw in the theater? If you saw Contagion, did you become a germaphobe for a week after, or was it just me?
I won't see it. I worked in an urban teaching hospital - granted as an administrator - but sat through enough team meetings and M&Ms to learn enough to scare the shit out of myself but not quite enough to talk myself in off the ledge. So a movie about widespread contagion? NOT.SO.MUCH.
God forbid that I let either one of my Aspie's see it.....chrysahmighty I might as well just go buy them human sized hamster balls, right?
I'm not a germaphobe, but I still won't be watching that movie. After watching "I Am Legend", I've decided that doomsday movies have no place in my already anxiety riddled life.
My husband on the other hand will probably watch it and add even more things to his expansive "Armageddon 2012" survival wishlist.
Hilarious! I haven't seen the movie but my mom did & she said it freaked her out a bit. Here's the thing : I never use hand sanitizer, my twins only use it at the zoo or aquarium. I have had them out & about to all kinds of public places since they could walk at 11 months old. At almost 4 they still lick various objects (like poles and handrails)and put stuff in their mouths. Ya know what? In all that time we've had 4 low grade fevers and they both get stuffy or runny noses about 2x a year. That's it. Maybe we are lucky, maybe we're in for some real schmidt down the line but I have to agree with the above "let them eat dirt".
Aiiiieeeeeee!!!! Ummmm...Hell's to the NO! I can't even watch the commercials for this movie! **shudder** It's a little like asking for membership to the pretty room with the lovely soft walls and padded floor.
I actually don't remember the last movie I saw in the theater... that is so sad. Contagion did look good from the previews, did you enjoy the movie otherwise?
I really like labeling the extra good food as 'Math homework and canned Brussel sprouts! Excellent!
Also. . . my daughter has started stimming by spitting in my face. It's awesome in so many ways, but even MORE awesome because she has a cold. This blog posting made me think of that.
Never... I never want to see this movie. I went from being a person who would drop food on the side walk and STILL EAT IT to a mom. I have hand sanitizer on me at all times, purse and diaper bag and when my baby got a mouthful of chain from the baby swings I called my ped (fyi: the lady who called back called back quicker then when he had a 103 fever and called back LAUGHING AT ME) You are a brave brave woman. LOL
For the record, any time my toddler says to me that someone threw up in school today, I downward spiral into hysteria and pop a few of her gummy vitamins because VOMIT IS NOT ALLOWED IN MY HOUSE. And yes, then I become a germophobe like you.
I work in a hospital laboratory so I'm a bit of a germaphobe when I leave there already, but after I saw it I went CRAZY and cloroxed every surface in my car because I was afraid I was going to carry something from work home.
Hahaha! Thankfully, I'm not really too much of a germaphobe although don't think I'll be rushing out to watch that movie! Saying that... I thought I'd offer an alternative to bleaching the kids toys as per day 4 in your timeline - try the washing machine! Seriously, Lego blocks in particular come out squeaky clean... I just pop them in an empty pillow case and wash with normal detergent! I know people who use the dishwasher instead with similar results!
I haven't seen it...but I'm a bit of a germaphobe aready.
ReplyDeleteYou're too funny! Why would you torture yourself?
ReplyDeleteMy daughter, also slightly crazy, saw it and told us we couldn't hug and kiss her anymore. Veto. I told her she would just have to take her chances.
Won't see it. But I love Day 2 10:25 am chore. May have to implement that. :)

ReplyDeleteI don't see movies in theaters.
ReplyDeleteYou know, at the end of the world I think you can let yourself drink regular Coke.
I tend to get the anxiety thing going too easily...I think I'll pass on Contagion.
ReplyDeleteAgreed on the Real Coke comment. ;)

ReplyDeleteOkay, the chocolate and diet coke labeled as extra math and canned brussel sprouts. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteI won't see that movie. It looks like it would rock me to my core.
