I am re-designing the logo for my blog. Yes, I love the crazy housewife I'm using right now, but she's from a vintage ad. I need to have an image that I can actually own. I'm going to keep the vintage-y look, though.
One of the elements will be a a woman with a coffee cup, or a woman with a martini glass. Do you guys find the martini glass offensive? Or sending a wrong message? I certainly don't want to be saying that mommies of special needs children are all driven to drink. On the other hand, I do sometimes enjoy a nice Frodka at the end of the day.
Hrmm...Tough call! Both are drugs and moms of special needs kids need both, sometimes. I say your new mommy-logo should be double fisting it...one in each hand!
ReplyDeleteI love the current one. Maybe a spin off of that?
ReplyDeleteCaveat- I selected Coffee, but the cup is going to have to be comically large! because if the coffee isn't big enough you're eventually going to need that Martini!
ReplyDeleteCoffee, but maybe a pic of mom drinking it straight from the carafe in an act of desperation.
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought you were designing new LEGO's. Clearly I haven't had enough coffee this morning. I voted for coffee, something I can definately relate to better. While I spent my 20's in the endless hedonism of parties, travelling, and doing whatever I wanted when I wanted, now that I have children I like to stay sober and cognizant just incase I have to make that trip to the emergency room at 11 pm. Or to the convenience store because we don't have any chocolate milk for to pack for tomorrow's lunch.
ReplyDeleteI think Melissa's a genius--can you do both?
ReplyDeletei also agree with melissa - gotta double fist it!!
ReplyDeleteLarge Coffee Cup containing a martini ?
ReplyDelete@Jenn - Excellent point. You *never know* what's in the coffee cup.
ReplyDeleteHow about an Irish Coffee? But I think there also needs a picture or caricature of you drinking the coffee.
ReplyDeleteToo many mommy bloggers wax rhapsodic about their love affair with alcohol ... which always annoys me so I voted for coffee.
ReplyDeleteI voted martini. Because I could totally use one right about now. But, ooooh, how about mom slipping some alcohol into her coffee cup on the sly? Best of both worlds, I say!
ReplyDeleteI vote coffee, because, as far as I know, too much coffee never destroyed a family (but I'm totally with you on a nice alcoholic beverage at the end of the day).
ReplyDeleteCan't tell you how many times I had wine in my coffee mug during the years my parents lived with us on and off ... also filled my to go flask with a cocktail for each school board meeting I had to attend (theres a blog right there!) Now I homeschool and drink coffee til 2, diet coke til 6 and wine thereafter.
ReplyDeleteLike the retro look of your coffee ad!
I voted coffee since so many of us are enjoying a nice cup while reading your awesome blog. There's always the choice of your best friend, diet coke too - not very vintage, but extremely important!
ReplyDeleteI think the only thing to be aware of now is the shift away from laughing about moms drinking. It happened when that woman killed herself, her children and her nieces? after consuming large amounts. Remember the story, the family was convinced she never drank. Anyway, don't know if she did or not, but that seemed to change perception of laughing about moms drinking.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I'm actually saying this, as I drink a martini every night....just trying to save you some fallout later on if someone tries to take you to task.
That said, my motto with my blog is that "It's my blog and I'll....(insert anything)....if I want to":)
I didn't vote b/c I think you should be holding a diet coke. I don't drink coffee or alcohol but I have a severe addiction to coca cola so I get a kick out of your posts when you allude to your love for diet coke.
ReplyDeletea 5 cent coffee? unless the cocktail is 10 cents, I vote for the coffee!!!
ReplyDeleteI too enjoy a cocktail, and so am not offended by that image, but I think the coffee is more universal. Unless you don't drink it. You could go with diet Coke, maybe they'd underwrite your site.
ReplyDelete@Joolie -- I'm starting to agree about coffee being more universal. I drink coffee like a fiend all morning, and then switch to DC in the afternoon. Although that Diet Coke "Plus" with vitamins has kinda a breakfast-y feel to it, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteI don't drink coffee or alcohol (insane I know) but coffee is less offensive. I hope those pics aren't the actual logos you are looking at, though. I like seeing a cartoon face with your blog, it is more humanizing, I guess you could say. I say that you find one of those cartoon pin up gals that people use in siggys on message boards and add your coffee cup/martini glass and your "gal" is draped over the letters SRMM with kids faces peeking through the letters-all vintagey of course.
ReplyDeletemy last post ^^^ sounded short and snide when I asked you about the logos-I was meaning that while they are "cute" they don't scream SRMM to me. Sorry if I came off rude-I totally am at times, just not today :)
ReplyDeleteI like your logo now. It's one of the things that attracted me to reading your blog. I mean, c'mon, what Mommy do you know that has perky tatas?! I'm with Sarah - can you find some way to update or make the current logo your own? My husband is a graphic designer. Could he help you?
ReplyDeleteI think Diet Coke is going to feel betrayed.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous -- I totally didn't take it as rude! And no, those are just graphics for the poll, not elements from the new logo.
ReplyDelete@AnnMargaret -- I'm working with a graphic designer, but thank you! I don't feel comfortable taking a chance with the current logo, even if it's altered. I just don't feel right about it. I promise the new logo will be totally awesome too!
@Lis -- I will never abandon Diet Coke!
It's those crazy HAPPYHAPPYHAPPY eyes on that housewife that make her so perfect for your blog. You know, like maybe someone glued her eyelids open in that position...possibly using mascara...or by pulling her hair back supertight and hairspraying with bond-o. I'm guessing you'd want that duplicated somehow. Eyebrows drawn up on the forehead too high...perky tatas...veneered teeth...sparkly pots...
ReplyDeleteThings that symbolize the perfect world we all know and love so much.
Coffee!
ReplyDeleteHi, SRMM! I voted for coffee, 'cause I think the martini sends the wrong message. However, I think they are both a little cliched. (sorry). If you've got a good graphic designer, let her/him run with it. That's their job. They know you want a vintage feel and may be able to come up with something amazing! Good luck!
ReplyDeletephysicsmom
I vote coffee and I feel like I should tell you why. I think a jittery over caffeinated mom is a little more funny than a slightly tipsy one. I have no problem with the martini. I am just thinking on a mental image level the coffee has more humor.
