Road Trip Song of the Day: Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia

Today we wound our way through the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains.  This YouTube video of John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads" looks kinda like one long Marlboro commercial, but it's a great recording of the song.

My kids sing all the lyrics but substitute "Pennsylvania" for "West Virginia".  It was sweet on our way into Pennsylvania but made me tear up on the way out.

To all our friends and family in Pennsylvania and Connecticut, I'm sorry we didn't get to see everyone.  We did our best in our limited time on the East coast.  We miss you all already.

  1. Yes, whoever made the actual video was a little confused. If memory serves me West Virginia is better known for coal mines than cowboys...or zebras.

  2. Well, Damn. Now I have that song stuck in my head! Enh - it's better than Lady Gaga, my daughter's been singing her all morning.

    Have a safe trip!

  3. Maybe there's a zoo somewhere in West Virginia?
